This important and rare 19th century Victorian gazetteer is now offered as an inexpensive and searchable CD. It contains 'the most recent and accurate information on every place in the colony' in 1879 - a wealth of information for historians and genealogists. It will also interest the general reader with its many insights into 19th century Victoria and several thousand localities. There are entries for towns and villages, lakes, rivers and creeks, islands, bays, hills and mountains, runs and other localities and features. It often gives latitude and longitude, populations, proximity to other towns, local industries, services such as coach and mail runs, hotels, churches, schools and much more.

EXAMPLE OF ENTRY:

"RIPLEY (Co. Grant), a small village in the parish of Balliang, and electoral district of S. Grant. It is situated on the Bacchus Marsh and Geelong road, and near the Little river on the N. side. The country is entirely agricultural and pastoral, and the population is small and scattered. It lies about 4 miles E. from the village of Anakies. The geological formation is upper volcanic."

Larger places have much more information. In addition this volume includes many advertisements, themselves giving an insight into 19th Century Victoria.
